Area Show Jumping

I'd like to start by thanking Carolyn Taylor for stepping in and organising the teams.

We had three teams jumping at summer house on Sunday in the novice section, the weather was very kind to us with lovely sunshine most of the day.  There was great team spirit with Becky Read yielding her camera and managing to capture most if not all of us at some stage.

Everybody managed to meet up at some point throughout the day and have a chat, we were happy to welcome new members Anna, Jane and Tracey into the fold. With a couple hitting the deck, but thankfully no broken bones, it wasn't SVRC's day for ribbons - but there is always next time.

Well done to everyone who attended. The intermediates on Saturday were ably supported by their parents,  unfortunately the heavens decided to hail on the team, so an odd rail down and a few sat nav problems they were also not in the ribbons. However, as 2 only knew they were jumping in the previous week, hats off to them.

We bid a sad farewell to team regular Sarah Highet as she is moving to faraway seas but wish her all the best for her new venture and the next chapter in her life. - Wendy Barke

Our first Endurance GB Riding Club Competition

11/14/2014

This year, SVRC entered a team into the Endurance GB Riding Club (EGB) Competition, a league table of clubs around the country.

The team was Kerry Carson, Eliza George, Christine Guy, Emma Baggs and Sarah Llewellyn.

After a couple of training days at Didmarton with international endurance rider, Rachel Claridge, we entered four horses into our first ride, a 30km at Cranham.

This was a fairly straight forward ride on good going across fields and through woodland resulting in two completions and a Grade 4.

Next up was a 32km at Wentwood, a challenging test across tougher and harder ground, but still a good time was made by everyone and a great result of two Grade 2s, a Grade 3 and a completion.

We're now looking for new members to join our team, or even create a second team for next season.

All you need is a fit horse and a keen rider. No previous endurance experience is necessary.

If you think you might be interested, contact Kerry on 07970045455 or email kerry400carson@gmail.com.

More details of EGB can be found on its website www.endurancegb.co.uk

Wow, what an exhausting weekend!! - By Fiona Hunt

What can I say? Genie is absolutely amazing. A 4 1/2 hour journey on Friday, schooling session Friday night, and then she tried her heart out for me at the BRC Nationals at Lincoln in the mist (at 10.30am!). In true BRC style the scores took forever to go up, but my super pony helped us to post a whopping 80%!! We then had a 3 hour wait for the rest of the scores (again, true BRC style!).

Long story short? Our team was 8th out of about 34!!!

Genie and I WON our arena!!!!!!!!!!

We were 10th overall!!!!!!!! (This is done out of ALL horses in the riding test at both novice and prelim, across 6 arenas, so about 150 horses!)

I could have cried at numerous points yesterday. We have received a lovely sash and two beautiful rosettes (sadly we didn't get the coveted rug, those only went to winning teams and overall winner). She was such a show off in the presentation - absolutely TOWED me down the long side as the photo shows!

A long journey home today and we are both exhausted. Genie is out in the field for the first time since Friday morning and I have seen to the lorry and am now absolutely exhausted! It's my birthday tomorrow and we shall go for our traditional birthday hack, then she will have Tuesday and Wednesday off to chill.

Thank you for the early present Genie!!!
