Competitions and disciplines
We have teams competing in all different disciplines details of which are listed below. We welcome riders of all levels so if you are interested then please read the information below listing all the different competitions available.
BHS Trec
The season runs from April to October with 4 levels running from the least experienced to the most experienced.
Consisting of 3 phases:
POR – Orienteering on Horseback
CoP – Control of Paces
PTV – Obstacle course
Combined Training
This is normally held around March/April consisting of both team and individual riders. You will have to ride a dressage test and then jump a round of showjumps.
The levels available to compete at are:
Prelim Test and 75 showjumping
Novice Test and 85 showjumping.
Dressage
Competitions are both in the Summer (June) on grass both team and individual and in the Winter (Nov) on a surface teams only.
The levels available to compete at are:

Novice
Elementary
Medium
Pairs
Quadrille
Teams of four
Teams of six
Riding Test
Dressage to Music
This is held around June with classes at the following levels:
Novice
Elementary
Pairs
Endurance
Open to teams of 3 to 6 riders riding routes of 30-35km
Eventers Challenge
This competition is made up of a team of 4 riding round a 1.05m course of showjumps and cross country fences and is held at Blenheim Palace during the horse trials in September.
Festival of the Horse
This competition is held in March and consists of Teams, Pairs and Individuals. You will ride a round of showjumps then immediately on to a round of cross country fences.
The heights of fences are:
Novice – 85cm SJ & 90cm XC
Novice Pairs – 85cm SJ & 90cm XC
Open – 90cm SJ & 1m XC
Horse Trials
This is held in June and consists of both Teams and Individuals.
The fences will be at the following heights:
80cm SJ & XC
90 cm SJ & XC
1m SJ & XC
1m + SJ & XC
Showjumping
There are competitions held in the Summer (July) on grass with both Teams and Individuals (Novice, Intermediate & Open) and in the Winter (November) on a surface, teams only (Novice and Intermediate.) You will have to jump 2 rounds of different heights with the possibility of a jump off which would be higher again.
The heights available to jump are:
Novice - 70cm - 75cm
Novice Plus – 80cm – 85cm
Intermediate – 95cm – 1m
Open – 1m10 – 1m15
There is also style jumping held with the summer competition both Team and Individual over the following heights:
75cm
85cm
There is also a Teams of 3 Competition held at the Royal International Horse Show, Hickstead in July/August. Consisting of 3 riders jumping 1 round each against the clock at different heights:
Novice -85cm
Intermediate -95cm
Open - 1m5cm
